Therefore, please refer to this news article prior to requesting technical assistance at the PTERODON Help Desk.
"Invalid CD Key" and "CD Key already in use" in the Multiplayer Mode
Over the last week, there have been many reports of players receiving "CD Key in Use - Join Failed" errors when playing the multiplayer mode of Vietcong 2 both over Internet and Local Area Network (LAN) games. We are working closely with GameSpy to diagnose and resolve these issues as soon as possible. However, players may see reoccurrences of this issue for short periods while the problem is being investigated. Thank you for your patience.
North American CD Installation
Some people experienced problems installing the North American CD version of Vietcong 2 (e.g. the installation was not completed, which means that the game icons, EAX4 Unified Redist driver, and registry entries were not installed correctly).
It is possible to avoid this problem by copying all of the CDs contents onto your local hard drive and installing the game by running the "setup.exe" file from there.
Disrupted Vietcong 2 Installation
If experiencing problems while installing Vietcong 2 (e.g. the installer does not exceed a certain amount of progress), please return the CD/DVD-ROM to the store you purchased the game from and acquire a new disc. This problem usually indicates that the disc that you obtained with your copy of Vietcong 2 is damaged.
EAX Unified Technology Not Available
Some people using the North American CD version of Vietcong 2 experienced problems enabling the EAX Unified Technology audio feature in the game. This problem is caused by an incomplete installation of the game. It is possible to avoid this problem by copying all of the CDs contents onto your local hard drive and reinstalling the game by running the "setup.exe" file from there.
Vietcong 2 Cannot Run
Some people were not able to run Vietcong 2 after successfully installing the game. This problem may occur due to several factors: the CD/DVD drive is too old to run the CD/DVD-ROM or these are not compatible with the latest SecuROM protection (LG disc drives, in particular, are known for having this problem), or the CD/DVD drive is outdated and is therefore required to obtain a firmware update. Both of these aspects are caused by the copy protection authentication of the game.
It is possible to obtain a solution to this problem by contacting SecuROM. Open the folder, in which you installed Vietcong 2 and locate the "vietcong2.exe" file. Right click on the file, select "Launch Analysis", and follow the on-screen instructions. A file named "analysislog.sr0" ought to be available in your root directory (e.g. C:\analysislog.sr0). Send this file, as well as a "DirectX Diagnostic" report, to support@securom.com. Afterwards, you ought to receive a solution to the problem in form of a corrected executable file for Vietcong 2.
Stuttering Pre-rendered Cinematic Sequences
If you are experiencing problems in form of stutter while watching the pre-rendered cinematic sequences, a corrupt driver for your video card may be the cause of this issue. Therefore, please attempt to install the newest driver available for your specified video card, or attempt to revert to an older driver version. It is important to try this solution for your soundcard as well.
If the above solution does not help, please attempt to lower the screen resolution of the game.

[3rd of January 2005] South East Asian Tsunami A few days ago, a terrible disaster took place on the South East Asian coasts. Even though the tragedy did not hit the Vietnamese coastline, where Americans fought for more than thirty years ago, it did hit the southern coastline of Thailand and other countries that are located in the Indian Ocean. This disaster is not comparable with the millions of civilian lives that were shattered in the Vietnam War, but is still a horrible catastrophe. It happened in one single and peaceful day, and meant the loss of hundreds and thousands of innocent people. A little less than five million survivors are now left without homes, families, and jobs, and are in desperate need of help.
You are most likely not capable of helping the victims of the Vietnam War, but you can help the South East Asian citizens now. You can make a difference, and help the people who need assistance by contributing your money to one of the following web sites. Every penny makes a difference, and we strongly encourage you, the viewers of the official PTERODON web site, to donate now.

[16th of September 2004] PTERODON Modding Team update The new PTERODON Modding Team leader has commented the current silence of the upcoming project named Nui Lei. Together with this, the PTERODON Modding Team section has been updated with new information concerning the current project.
The PTERODON Modding Team section is no longer available.
"The PTERODON Modding Team has been under a lot of criticism in the past few weeks about the lack of work it has produced. Admittedly there have been a number of problems in the team; a number of members were either not working, or had gone missing completely. Only a small amount of work was produced in the time since its conception.
However, the PTERODON Modding Team is now under new leadership and a team consisting entirely of devoted members now exists. The official web site is currently being developed and will be located at http://pmt.pterodon.com/. As a team we are in constant talks about what we will release to the community and what kind of dynamic and exciting ideas we can turn to reality in the game.
We are continuing to work on project Nui Lei. The initial plans to include the new game type named "team co-ordinated attack (TCA)" will commence, and shortly after the release the script will be published for use by other multiplayer map makers.
The PTERODON Modding Team consists of seven members at the moment and we consider this to be a complete team. A mistake made by the PTERODON Modding Team before was to let too many members join the team, which lead to a break down in the communication. Therefore, the leadership became increasingly hard. After the completion of Nui Lei the whole team will hold discussions and consider what we are doing next. If necessary, we will look for new and enthusiastic members to join the team.
One last aim set to the PMT by PTERODON was to continually aid other map- and MOD makers in the Vietcong community. All PTERODON Modding Team members are checking the forums at both http://forum.pterodon.cz/ and http://www.gathering.com/forums/. If you are in need of assistance then post in the respective editing forums and you can expect a quick response. Following the completion of the PTERODON Modding Team web site we will include personal contact details where you can chat with the team individually.
So please keep your faith within the PTERODON Modding Team and we will continue working hard in order to produce something special for the whole community".

June 2004
[30th of June 2004] Jarek Kolar comments the current developer silence "I have heard a lot of pessimistic talk of the Vietcong fans today. I do not think that it is fair that you fans are judging PTERODON by saying that we are too busy for supporting the Vietcong community anymore. You have forgotten our multiplayer map work, HradBa updates, Ptero-Engine-II editor support and other things.
I would like to assure you that the "other things" are still about Vietcong, but our publisher has not announced anything about that subject yet, so that is why we are required to be silent about our actual game projects. Our publisher is preparing a massive marketing campaign for our actual project, and we cannot spoil it by leaking information at the time of being.
One thing is for sure, and that is that we still support the Vietcong community."
Jarek Kolar, producer, PTERODON.
